What is a nano aquarium?
Nano aquariums are compact tanks that typically range in volume from 10 to a maximum of 45-50 litres. Due to their small size, they offer great flexibility in placement and consume less electricity and water compared to traditional, larger aquariums. These tanks are often used as decorative highlights for moss landscapes, aquascaping, and housing fascinating invertebrates.
Can you keep fish in a nano aquarium?
This depends on the animal welfare regulations in your country. In Austria, for instance, fish may be kept permanently only in aquariums with a gross volume of at least 54 litres. Smaller nano tanks, such as 10, 20 or 30 litre models, are therefore intended exclusively for keeping dwarf shrimp, ramshorn snails or dwarf crayfish. Please check the animal welfare regulations in your country before adding fish to your nano aquarium.
Are nano aquariums suitable for beginners?
Yes. Contrary to the common belief that smaller tanks are more difficult to maintain, modern equipment and biological starter products have made it much easier for beginners today. Nano complete sets are an excellent choice for newcomers, as the filter performance and LED light intensity are specifically designed to match the tank’s volume. With the right selection of plants and peaceful dwarf shrimp, this type of mini ecosystem can become very stable and easy to care for after a brief acclimatisation period.
